Description

Meeting with clients, opposing counsel, and others is almost always more effective face to face. Although we can't always have these important meetings in person, affordable video conferencing is a great alternative to boring, monotonous telephone calls.

In this session, we'll discuss the different options available to lawyers in solo, small, and medium-sized firms, including free and low-cost video conferencing options. In addition, you'll learn about the best equipment for hosting or broadcasting a video conference, the best mobile video apps, and tips to ensure you don't spend the first ten minutes of your video call making sure everyone is online.

Dennis Kennedy

Dennis Kennedy is an information technology lawyer and legal technology author based in St. Louis, Missouri. Dennis is Senior Counsel for Digital Payments and Labs in the law department of Mastercard. He is also well known for his influential role in promoting the use of technology in the practice of law.

Dennis writes a technology column for the ABA Journal, co-hosts a legal technology podcast called The Kennedy-Mighell Report on the Legal Talk Network, has co-authored the books: LinkedIn in One Hour for Lawyers (with Allison Shields, now in second edition, LinkedIn in One Hour (with Allison Shields), Facebook in One Hour for Lawyers (with Allison Shields), and The Lawyer’s Guide to Collaboration Tools and Technologies: Smart Ways to Work Together (with Tom Mighell). He has published hundreds of articles on legal technology topics and currently serves as Chair of the board of the ABA’s Legal Technology Resource Center.

Dennis graduated magna cum laude from Wabash College in 1980 and cum laude from the Georgetown University Law Center in 1983.

Tom Mighell is Vice President of Delivery Services at Contoural, Inc., where he helps companies develop information governance and litigation readiness programs, to better control company records and information. Prior to becoming a consultant, he practiced law for 18 years with Cowles & Thompson in Dallas, Texas. Mr. Mighell is the author of iPad in One Hour for Lawyers, iPad in One Hour for Litigators, iPad Apps in One Hour for Lawyers and the co-author (with Dennis Kennedy) of The Lawyer's Guide to Collaboration Tools and Technologies: Smart Ways to Work Together, all published by the ABA's Law Practice Division.

He is also the co-host of the The Kennedy-Mighell Report, a legal technology podcast at www.legaltalknetwork.com, and publishes a legal technology blog at Inter Alia (www.inter-alia.net). Tom served as Chair of ABA TECHSHOW 2008, and will serve as Co-Chair of ABA TECHSHOW 2018. He served as Chair of the Law Practice Division from 2011-2012. Mr. Mighell received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Texas at Austin.
