Runtime: 1 hour and 32 minutes
Recorded: February 12, 2018

Medical-Legal Partnerships (MLPs) integrate attorneys in a health care setting to help patients navigate the complex legal system that often holds solutions to many social determinants of health— income supports for food, utility shut-off protection during cold winter months, and mold removal from the homes of asthmatic children. MLPs receive pro bono assistance from dozens of law firms and lawyers across the U.S.

This presentation will include a discussion by attorneys who work at MLPs located at Veterans Affairs (VA) medical services that serve veterans, including homeless and low-income veterans, as well as veterans with mental illnesses and other health conditions.

Speakers will discuss:
  • The integration of legal services into medical care and medical staffs through the Medical-Legal Partnerships model at VA and other medical facilities
  • The types of legal issues and patient populations served by Medical-Legal Partnerships at VA medical facilities
  • The role of corporate law departments, private practice and pro bono attorneys in Medical-Legal Partnerships

This program was recorded on February 12th, 2018.
