Panelist Biographies

Amy S. Park

Partner
Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP

Amy S. Park focuses her practice on high-stakes commercial disputes in federal and state courts, including complex business disputes, M&A litigation, shareholder derivative suits, corporate governance disputes, internal investigations and securities class actions.

Ms. Park is active in a variety of initiatives that empower women lawyers to reach the highest levels of success. In 2015, the National Diversity Council awarded her its “Leadership Excellence in the Law” award, which recognizes attorneys who have “distinguished themselves through their leadership, resolve and outstanding achievements for their clients.” In 2014, Ms. Park was named one of California’s “Most Powerful and Influential Women” by The California Diversity Council. She also has been recognized by the Silicon Valley Business Journal as a “Woman of Influence” and was the recipient of a “Wise Woman” award from Deloitte.

She was a key member of the team recognized by the Daily Journal with a 2016 “California Lawyer Attorneys of the Year” award for innovative work on behalf of Broadcom Corporation in its acquisition by Avago Technologies.

She writes and speaks regularly on a variety of topics, including legal ethics for in-house counsel, e-discovery, securities litigation and the advancement of women in the legal profession.

Ms. Park founded Skadden’s Bay Area Women’s Initiative, which provides career development and networking opportunities for the firm’s Palo Alto-based women attorneys. She also helps lead a similar firmwide program, the Skadden Women’s Initiative, which fosters leadership skills and career development opportunities for the firm’s women attorneys. In addition, she serves as the co-chair of the West Coast chapter of the Women in Law Empowerment Forum, a national nonprofit focused on promoting leadership opportunities for women in law.

Ms. Park is a leader in Skadden’s Diversity and Pro Bono committees, serves on the Palo Alto Hiring Committee and is the partner in charge of attorney development for Skadden’s Palo Alto office. She serves as a mock trial coach for high school students and is a member of the board of directors of the nonprofit Northern California Family Dog Rescue.

Ms. Park is a practice leader for “Know Your Rights and Know the Law: Sexual and Social Media Misconduct,” an innovative pro bono project between Skadden’s Palo Alto office and the nonprofit Legal Advocates for Children and Youth, which teaches Bay Area high school students about their legal rights and responsibilities in the realm of social media.


Angela Padilla

Managing Counsel
Uber Technologies, Inc.

Angela L. Padilla is Associate General Counsel, Litigation, Employment Law, and Labor Relations at Uber in San Francisco. Ms. Padilla previously served as Vice President and Deputy General Counsel in VMware, Inc.’s Palo Alto in 2010-2015. She has tried cases in state and federal courts and has substantial experience handling appeals in the Ninth Circuit and the California Courts of Appeal. Prior to joining VMware, Ms. Padilla was a litigation partner at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe (2008-10) and at Morrison & Foerster (partner, 1999-2008 and associate, 1991-1998).

Ms. Padilla managed all aspects of global litigation and corporate compliance at VMware. She has deep experience representing large and small clients in a wide variety of high-stakes cases. She has prosecuted and defended cases involving unfair competition, theft of trade secrets, copyright and trademark infringement, RICO, business torts, and state and federal criminal charges. She conducts internal investigations involving alleged violations of federal law. In 1997-98, Ms. Padilla served as a Deputy District Attorney in the Santa Clara District Attorney’s Office on the misdemeanor trial team.

Ms. Padilla has an active pro bono practice which includes animal rights cases. For example, she was counsel in a novel challenge to the living conditions of factory farm animals in California. Ms. Padilla is a recognized expert in constitutional challenges to anti-discrimination policies. Of particular note is her victory in the Ninth Circuit on behalf of the city of Oakland in Good News Employees v. Oakland, et al.

Ms. Padilla received her J.D. degree from Columbia University School of Law, where she was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. She received her B.A. degree from Harvard College, Magna Cum Laude.
